We are excited and honored to welcome Physicist, Data Scientist, and TV Host Dr. Debbie Berebichez to the Metis team. As our Chief Data Scientist, she will lead all product and course development efforts, will build and manage our rapidly growing team of data scientists, and will work to foster a culture around training, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
'Dr. Berebichez will be a stellar addition to our team, given her phenomenal experience and skill set as well as her passion for making data science approachable and appealing to a wide range of audiences,' said Jason Moss, Metis Co-Founder and General Manager.
Her background is incredibly impressive. She is the first Mexican woman to graduate with a physics Ph.D. from Stanford University. She was the co-host of Discovery Channel's Outrageous Acts of Science TV show and co-starred in Humanly Impossible, a TV show produced by National Geographic.
Prior to Metis, she was a Principal Data Scientist at Thoughtworks, and her work in STEM outreach has been recognized by WSJ, Oprah, Dr. Oz, CNN, TED, DLD, WIRED, Ciudad de las Ideas and others. She is the Global Ambassador for Technovation Challenge, to teach high school girls from underserved communities how to code science-based mobile apps and start high-tech companies based on them. Dr. Berebichez has taken her STEM outreach initiatives globally to places like India, Israel, Mexico and Costa Rica. Due to the international nature of her work, she has recently been named a John C. Whitehead Fellow at the Foreign Policy Association.
"I'm excited to join Metis, as it is leading the way in developing data science skills for today's economy. Many companies realize the need for technical skills training, and we're also seeing a growing number of technically-trained professionals claiming the title of data scientist," said Dr. Deborah Berebichez. "Where Metis has distinguished itself is in training beyond the technical know-how to develop a more holistic skill set that also includes the deeper critical thinking, problem-solving, and communications skills that make for a successful data scientist. I'm looking forward to furthering the Metis approach to new audiences."
