Explore Data Science online training introduces common data science theory and techniques to help programmers, mathematicians, and other technical professionals expand their data science expertise. Participants go at their own pace during an overall 40-hour exploration of frequently used data science techniques.
Explore Data Science is in the form of an interactive game, with participants advancing from one planet to another as they're actively engaged with real datasets and interactive tasks. They earn points, awards, and badges for completing missions along the way.
Python is used to complete the interactive challenges. There’s no need to fuss with environment and package setup. Explore Data Science has code execution right in the browser, meaning that users get real results, in real time.
In approximately 40 hours of self-paced interactive content, participants learn how to use data science to achieve a variety of analytic goals, including next-generation predictive and advisory approaches. Throughout their galactic data science journey, they explore the following six different planetary modules:
Explore Data Science is for anyone with basic skills and proficiency in statistics, linear algebra, and programming.
The following is a non-exhaustive list of participants who will benefit from this curriculum:
Explore Data Science provides focus for commonly used data science techniques and will help participants gain a broader practical understanding of the data science field. It’s designed to challenge and entertain simultaneously. Upon completion, participants will have experience with the following techniques:
Explore Data Science introduces common data science theory and techniques to help programmers, mathematicians, and other technical professionals expand their data science expertise. Through a series of exercises and lessons, embedded in a fun, engaging, and integrated environment, EDS provides the structure and guidance for participants to get a real taste of data science.
In order to get full benefit from this training, participants will need some familiarity with python programming. (i.e. Are common data structures, control flow, importing modules, call functions, and digging into API documentation) Participants will also need a bit of familiarity with math concepts such as basic linear algebra, understanding of calculus concepts like partial derivatives, and a bit of experience with statistics and probability.
Upon completing Explore Data Science, participants will have:

No in-person instructor, as this is a self-paced online training. However, a teaching assistant is available for content-related questions, and technical support for issues with the application. Both are reachable through online help.
No, this is online only, and participants can complete the self-paced training from any location during their 2-month access period.
Explore Data Science follows many of the learning tenets that we follow in the bootcamp. Metis' approach with the bootcamp is to teach our students key concepts while reinforcing the learning with challenges and projects. The challenges and projects provide the practical connection for the lessons. Explore Data Science will take participants on a similar learning journey, albeit online and self-paced. Please see our bootcamp syllabus here.
The training will give participants a greater foundation in data science. This should benefit them if applying to the Metis Data Science Bootcamp, but it does not in any way guarantee a spot in the bootcamp.
Please visit Explore Data Science for more details.
No. We only offer career support for our bootcamp.
Yes, those who complete Explore Data Science are presented with a certificate of completion. They'll also leave with a working conceptual understanding of the data science field and will have experience using a wide variety of data science techniques.
